Alliances

Last week in our Competitors class, we learned about coopetition and alliances. Coincidently, Carlos Ghosn spoke at SOM on Tuesday, describing the Nissan-Renault alliance. It was an amazing experience to learn about the automobile industry from the CEO's perspective and to see a real example of the material we're learning in class. He spent most of the time answering well prepared questions and overall, I was very impressed by how smoothly everything ran.

The difference between the second part of the new curriculum and the first part is the amount of group work assigned. This week alone, I have the following group assignments: Industry Analysis for the Int'l trip to China, Competitor company analysis, Competitor group assignment, Customer project, State & Society project, and a mentorship meeting. The hardest part isn't completing the assignments, but scheduling a time where everyone can meet. I don't want to sound like a complaining 1st year (ahem JB), but I definitely can't wait till winter break!!

On the recruiting front, I finished my first cover letter and have started bidding for interview spots. Time definitely flies when you're in school, but I hope to land some interviews in January. Fortunately I have a little time because I'm not pursuing ibanking, but I definitely don't want to miss any of the consulting deadlines. One thing I realize is that I'm severely behind on practicing case interviews. Even though I should've been practicing all semester, I hope to do some major catch-up over the next few weeks.

Lastly, I'm SUPER excited about going to Hong Kong and China. I got all my vaccinations from YHS last week and my passport/visa is all good to go. There has been some complaining among the China travelers that our pre-trip work (15-20 slides + 10 pg paper) is excessive compared to groups going to other countries, but at the end of the day I guess it's a good way to learn more about the fastest growing economy in the world. This will be my first new years experience outside the USA, and I expect nothing but ridiculous, crazy fun.

23 Days left till Hong Kong

PS - I have mixed feelings about UCLA upsetting USC, but at least the Rose Bowl will be a classic Big 10/Pac 10 showdown

HK and China should be definitely a worthwhile trip. I will await to hear more about it - hopefully you will get to write some detailed reports/observations. Make sure you brush up your Catonese and Mandarin though, will surely help in those two places ;)

if i may ask, what kind of paper are you supposed to submit before actually travelling ?

My portion of the paper/presentation is doing research on the manufacturing industry. So I get to write a 5 pages on the manufacturing industry and 5 pages on Lenovo (we're visiting a Lenovo plant)

North American online casino gamblers constitute 48 percent of the overall Online Casinos Extreme gambling business and research indicates that this might shrink to 36 percent by 2010.

Immediately after the lay-flop followed by a second auction in hand. This time it starts with the first player left of the dealer and going clockwise rotation.
Players have three options in this situation:
Waiting (English: CHECK) - transmission queue to the next player without boost, wait out the play, which is a form of passive play or attempt to pry into what others are doing. This play is only possible when no one in front of us did not raise rates.
Raise (BET) - propose a game on a higher rate. If someone has already done it before us, and we want to play for big money at this point, we are talking about the piercing (RAISE). Set in the time of a new "price" for further participation in the pot for the other players.
Check (CALL) - alignment to conquer made by the previous player, accept to continue the game after the proposed higher rates, but without the piercing. The game can not go on, if all the other players do not check to top the last boost (or breakdown).
Of course, at any time, if it gets hot on the table and our cards in combination with the flop is not the strongest, remains safely withdraw from the game by ...
The fitting ... (FOLD) - that is, leave the game and lose all raised to date facilities and blinds.

After the "burn" cards from the top deck, leading the game teaches at the center of the table fourth community card for all that, like the previous three can be used to assemble the strongest poker. This card is called in English "turn" (there is actually Polish names, the players remain with the original terminology in English).
After the liner followed by a third auction in a similar way as before. The only difference is that the minimum raise, which previously was the big blind now be doubled. Texas Holdem - River
Finally a fifth community card is lined up on the table and all remaining players assess its impact on the final system they can create with the disposal of a total of seven cards (5 per table plus two added).
Followed by the last betting round (unless all players przeczekają it without boost) and participants who have not yet folded pass to compare systems. Texas Holdem - Showdown
Showdown or presentation (comparison) systems starts with the final conquering rate at the last auction (the player tested). He must show his two hole cards and thus betray the people what is the final system. Subsequent players who tested his conquest assess the strength of your hand, and if it is stronger naturally also show him to take the pot, but if you have a weaker system, they can just throw their cards without showing them, thereby recognizing his defeat.
